Newcastle handed further Hugo Ekitike boost after Borussia Dortmund reveal hand

Newcastle United have been handed a further boost in their pursuit of Hugo Ekitike after Borussia Dortmund tabled a bid for Ajax striker Sebastien Haller. The former West Ham forward enjoyed a fine spell with the Eredivisie outfit last, scoring 34 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions last season.

Dortmund have reportedly tabled a €33million offer for the Ivory Coast international, leaving Newcastle with one less club to compete with for Ekitike's signature. The Magpies have already agreed a deal with Reims for the 20-year-old striker and are in contract talks as things stand.

Ligue 1 giants PSG have also been linked with a move for the French youngster, but have not yet tabled an offer. Ekitike is reportedly seeking assurances from Eddie Howe's side in regard to playing time with the Magpies mainly using one striker since the head coach's arrival.

Dortmund are well known for their ability to sign young talents and transform them into European superstars and Ekitike was linked with a move to the Signal Iduna Park. The arrival of RB Salzburg talent Karim Adeyemi is one for the future, but Haller would be a likely replacement for Erling Haaland after his transfer to Manchester City.

Newcastle are in pole position to sign Ekitike, who is currently on holiday and celebrating his 20th birthday. His arrival would be the first of what is expected to be a busy transfer window for the Magpies, as they look to avoid a repeat of the beginning of the last campaign.
