Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman comments about his future amid impressive form for Swansea

Newcastle United goalkeeper has commented on his future amid his impressive form on loan at Swansea.

The former England under-21 international goalkeeper has made the No 1 slot his own at the Liberty Stadium and hit the headlines last week with two penalty saves in successive games.

The 22-year-old will return to Newcastle this summer with his contract at St James' Park set to expire in the summer of 2021. The Magpies could have a goalkeeping reshuffle on their hands this summer with both Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot's contract set to expire at the end of this season.

There will also inevitably be interest in Slovakia international Martin Dubravka who continues to impress in goal for the Magpies.

Swansea are known to be keen to turn Woodman's loan into a permanent move but he is set to return to St James' Park this summer to compete for the number one slot.

Should Dubravka remain, the immediate likelihood of Woodman becoming Newcastle's No 1 will be slim.

So what is his thinking ahead of the summer? When pressed about his future over the weekend, Woodman told BBC Sport that he plans to park any talks about his future until the end of the current season.

"I have got 10 games left here at Swansea and I am going to enjoy every minute of it," Woodman said.

"I have done that for the last 36 games. I have enjoyed playing for this team and this club so I don't look any further ahead."

Swansea still harbour an outside chance of reaching the Championship play-offs and that remains Woodman's immediate target.

"We are going to give it everything," Woodman added. "We will try to pick up as many points as we can and get in that top six."
