Newcastle Fire Walk is aiming to set the world alight with record-breaking attempt

Brave volunteers will be blazing a trail for charity as they set out on a world record-breaking bid.

A fire walk will be taking place on Tuesday to raise money for charity and it is hoped that more people will sign up to join in as the aim is to break the event's own record for the biggest event of its kind.

The fire walk will take place at Newcastle Falcons rugby ground and the hope is that more daredevils will be hot-footing it along to smash the target for the most people taking part in such an event.

The current record stands at 1,360 participants and organiser and Newcastle charity guru Danny Mitchell is aiming for 1,500fire walkers to raise more than £250,000 for local good causes.

Fire walking is an incredible experience and also totally safe," said Danny, whose company Change - which helps charities maximise their fund-raising potential and provides them with mentoring and training-  initially created the fund-raiser event with UK Fire walk and Challenge Northumberland.

It's gone on to become the country's largest ever charity fire walk and remains hugely popular with locals.

And first-timers are set to find it a memorable experience.

Danny said: "We have experienced trainers available to coach everyone on the night, including someone who holds the world record for the longest fire walk.

"We're incredibly excited about the event as it's going to be a lot of fun and a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many people.

"Not only is fire walking an amazing experience, everyone who enters can be sponsored to raise money for charities that are important to them."

Everyone taking part will receive a medal and a certificate.

Mitchell added: "We also get to put Newcastle on the World Record map, which is something I'm very proud of.”

The world record attempt will get under way at the Newcastle Falcon's ground in Brunton Road, Newcastle , on April 30 at 6.45pm, following arrival at 6.30pm.

It is open to both individuals and groups and costs £25 to register. To do so see here .
