Newcastle fans weigh in on Dubravka vs Darlow debate ahead of Man United clash

Newcastle United fans have been having their say on the Martin Dubravka vs Karl Darlow goalkeeping debate.

Dubravka was first-choice keeper at Newcastle last season but suffered an injury during the club's pre-season training camp in York.

While the Slovakia international recovered from cracking a bone in his heel, Darlow got his chance to impress between the sticks.

And Steve Bruce has so far kept faith with Darlow, even after Dubravka returned to full fitness.

The former Sparta Prague stopper has had to settle for a place on the bench since then, with his only outing of the season so far coming in the FA Cup third-round defeat to Arsenal last month.

Ahead of Newcastle's Premier League clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, Bruce was asked about Dubravka's current situation.

"He’s been very professional but that doesn’t mean he’s happy (with not playing) and I wouldn’t expect him to be," said the Magpies boss.

"I’ve stayed with Karl because I think he deserves it - all season we've said how well he's played but I need that competition."

Dubravka made his Newcastle debut against Man United three years ago and kept a clean sheet.

Some supporters feel he should be recalled to the starting line-up at Old Trafford, while others think Darlow has done enough to keep his place.

"We need Dubravka back immediately," one said on Twitter. "He is calmness personified, positional astute and distributes flawlessly. He is a great keeper, whilst Darlow has just made some great saves."

Another tweeted: "It is possible to appreciate Darlow and the great job he has done and at the same time see that Dubravka is the better player."

But a third fan said: "You cannot drop Darlow. He has been excellent! Both keepers are superb and Dubravka must wait (as Darlow did) for a chance."
