Newcastle fans think they have spotted takeover clue in Mike Ashley lawyer's latest tweet

Newcastle United supporters believe they have once again spotted a takeover hint in Nick De Marco’s latest tweet.

The QC, who was tasked with representing Mike Ashley during the high-profile dispute with the Premier League over the failed attempt to sell Newcastle in the summer, has set Magpies fans' tongues wagging on numerous occasions already on his Twitter account.

And this morning was no different, as despite tweeting about Dry January, some United fans felt De Marco was dropping a subtle clue about the club's takeover.

He tweeted: " #dryjanuary last night I tried some Kombucha an alcohol alternative. Didn’t make my own after reading it ‘May Cause Bloating and Digestive Distress’ or kill you.

"Didn’t like it much. Like green tea & ginger beer.

"Trouble is ordered a load of cans. Maybe nice with vodka in Feb?"

To the untrained eye, it was nothing to get excited about but his use of the word 'cans' has set pulses racing.

#Cans was a trend associated with the initial takeover excitement back in March 2020 with fans hinting they would celebrate the end of the Ashley era by drinking lots of them.

And to some fans, DeMarco's use of the term was more than just a mere coincidence.

One fan joked: " #Cans in February, hearing you loud and clear Nick."

While another tweeted: "Howay man, @nickdemarco, ordered a load of #cans , for February did you say?"

De Marco is representing Ashley in a dispute with the Premier League over their decision to reject Saudi Arabia's takeover bid of the Magpies.

The QC from Blackstone Chambers has made a name for himself among Newcastle fans, who are desperate for a takeover from Ashley to go through.

As well as representing Ashley, De Marco has recently won a case on behalf of Derby County in their battle against the EFL over their sale of Pride Park stadium and acted for Sheffield Wednesday in disciplinary proceedings over its sale of Hillsborough.
