Newcastle fans share same concern despite point against Brentford

Eddie Howe's Bournemouth side were known for their fast and dangerous attacking play, particularly in their first couple of seasons in the Premier League.

Although Howe himself wasn't on the touchline for the game against Brentford - due to a positive Covid test - there were signs that Newcastle had quickly picked up some of their new manager's attacking principles as they scored three goals against Brentford.

However, that was only enough for a point as their leaky defensive record continued and the game ended 3-3.

This defensive record is something that's proving concerning for Magpies fans online and some took to Twitter to express their feelings.

@pigeon_legs wrote "We need some new blood in that defence", whilst @chilly866 said "worst we've been defensively".

Another user, @scotty813 said "Darlow and Lacelles just not good enough at this level We need a CB in Jan and Dubravka back in nets."

The goalkeeper situation was one which had a lot of attention on Twitter as Karl Darlow had a day to forget in the Newcastle goal. Ivan Toney's shot squirmed between his hands and his body and into the net just a minute after Jamaal Lascelles had opened the scoring for the Magpies.

This sentiment was echoed by @kanekong77 as they wrote "Darlow was off today again. Should not have started today. As soon as I saw him in net I was disappointed."

However, many were encouraged by the improvements in the attacking play and @jondocs78 wrote:

"as disappointing as the result was, how nice was it seeing us as a threat going forward. If we can get some legs in the middle of the park and continue to be as threatening as that, we will have a chance."

Meanwhile, @DomNufc1993 said, "with how things stand we are gonna have to get some unexpected results, if we can attack like we have today we will cause upsets."

For many, the hope is that the attacking improvements can help keep Newcastle's heads above water before defensive improvements can be brought to the club in January, as @JimmyMoore12 said, "The defence is always going to be an issue until January. The attack is just going to bail us out until then like today."
