Newcastle fans send resounding transfer message after links to Manchester United's Phil Jones

Newcastle United supporters have been reacting to the latest transfer links with Manchester United centre-back Phil Jones.

The Magpies have been 'making checks' on Jones' situation at Old Trafford, according to Eurosport, as Steve Bruce looks to improve his defence.

The report claims that Bruce used his relationship with Michael Carrick to learn more about the 28-year-old's current situation, as well as his physical state.

The former England international is on about £80,000-a-week at the Manchester-based club, which could prove an issue for Newcastle, but due to his severe lack of game-time, he may be forced to take a wage reduction in order to play more first-team football.

However, Bruce's side aren't the only potential suitors for Jones - with Leicester City and West Ham also keen on him, according to the report.

Mapgies fans have taken to Twitter to react to the latest rumours linking their club with a move for the out-of-favour United central defender - and it's safe to say they're not too pleased.

Newcastle have conceded 15 goals in 11 Premier League games so far this season and Bruce is seemingly keen on bolstering his defensive options.

Bruce went into this season with Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett and Federico Fernandez to choose from in the centre of defence.

Florian Lejeune is out on loan at Spanish side Alaves and the 29-year-old has impressed during his 10 La Liga appearances, with some supporters asking for the Frenchman to be recalled.

The Magpies have previously been linked with a move for Fikayo Tomori of Chelsea, who has made just one Premier League appearance for the Blues so far this season.
