Newcastle fans react to takeover lawyer Nick De Marco's post on Super League 'dispute'

Newcastle fans have responded to Nick De Marco's post on the European Super League 'dispute' and why he can not comment.

De Marco QC is representing the Magpies in their ongoing dispute regarding the Premier League's conduct around the failed takeover.

Mike Ashley has initiated legal proceedings against the Premier League following the breakdown of the sale last summer.

It is a protracted saga which has seen the lawyer regularly engage with Newcastle supporters on social media, and offer score predictions for Steve Bruce's side.

However, De Marco's latest post was in response to the European Super League proposals which has engulfed the sport since the announcement on Sunday afternoon.

The Magpies' legal representative responded to a suggestion by The Lawyer magazine that he could be called to act on any Super League litigation.

De Marco posted: "Just heard ‘The Lawyer’ magazine says ‘those in the legal market are currently holding sweepstakes’ as to who might instruct me in the ESL dispute.

"It’s nice to be mentioned alongside such esteemed colleagues, but I’m sure everyone will understand if I can’t comment on all this."

Given De Marco's bid position on behalf of Newcastle in the ongoing takeover saga, it was a post which inevitably drew the attention of the club's supporters.

One fan wrote: "Nick will you please get our takeover through before you move onto this one thank you very much indeed."

Another supporter commented: "If they want the best then the EPL better get the Newcastle takeover approved ASAP to free up your diary! Newcastle first - save football second."
