Newcastle fans react to Spurs fans' planned prank

Tottenham Hotspur travel to St James' Park this Sunday to face Newcastle United.

This game will be the first since the completion of the takeover which sees the Saudi Arabian PiF take an 80% control of the club, with the belonging to Amanda Staveley's PCP Capital Partners and Reuben Brothers Sports and Media. This takeover makes Newcastle one of the richest clubs in world football and the envy of other fan bases. Not least the visitors to Tyneside tomorrow, and as such Spurs fans have planned a prank to try and spoil the party.

But Magpies fans spotted the tweet (below) and have been responding with jokes of their own.

One reply which has gained a lot of likes and retweets came from @nufcpanda, who wrote, "Have you considered how high up the away end is at St James Park? By the time the cash lands on the ground we will be Champions of Europe".

Another, @connordickson_ said, "It's ok, our owners do it with real money instead."

One user suggested this was an act of jealousy as they wrote, "Why do that when the consortium just did it and will continue to do it for as long as they own #NUFC? Your best bet would be to stop by a vineyard & ask for all their sour grapes so you can throw those out." The prank was called "simply lame" by @scottcushing.

The irony that Spurs had previously been part of the Super League breakaway attempt was not lost either, as @DanneMedSkagget wrote, "So, this is the fans of one of the clubs that wanted to break out of the Premier League, due to them wanting more money. Just let that sink in. Double standards, eh?"

Magpies fans will hope to have the last laugh on Sunday as the team look to maximise on the positive atmosphere among fans by winning their first game of the season.
