Newcastle fans pleased with Jamal Lewis' return but question big Eddie Howe decision

Newcastle United fans are delighted to see Jamal Lewis make a long-awaited return to the starting lineup but have questioned Eddie Howe's decision to overlook Federico Fernandez once again.

The Northern Ireland international was one of three defensive changes made for the bottom of the table clash with Norwich City, with Ciaran Clark and Javier Manquillo taking the places of Emil Krafth and Jamaal Lascelles.

It will be Lewis' first Premier League start of the season, and his first black-and-white appearance since a late cameo in the defeat at Manchester United in September.

The left-back will lineup in a much-changed back four from the side which lost at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, with Fabian Schar being the only defender to keep his place.

Manquillo takes Krafth's place on the right flank, with suspensions for Lascelles and Matt Ritchie opening up spots for Clark and Lewis.

Speculation had mounted in recent days that Fernandez could return to the starting eleven, having so far failed to earn a place in Howe's two matchday squads to date.

The Argentine centre-back will take his place on the bench against Norwich City, but it is Clark who will partner Schar at the heart of defence.

While Newcastle fans were otherwise pleased with Howe's attacking selection for the must-win clash against Dean Smith's side, many responded to the announcement on social media by questioning the preference for Clark over Fernandez.

This is how Newcastle United fans reacted to Howe's team selection for the crunch clash with the Canaries:

'3 points a must'

'Come on lads'

'Gives me hope'

'Good team'

'Nearly perfect'

'What does Fede need to do?'
