Newcastle fans plead with Ivan Toney to be 'gentle with us' as the striker gets ready for League Cup quarter-final

Former Toon striker Ivan Toney is now preparing for Tuesday's League Cup quarter-final after taking to social media to state his intentions.

Tweeting after Brentford's 3-1 win over Reading - in which Toney didn't score but did register an assist - Toney wrote: "Big three points, onto Tuesday now!" accompanied by an exclamation mark and looking eye emoji.

Chronicle Live jokingly used a GIF of WWE legend The Rock telling Toney ' just bring it' to which the 24-year-old responded in similarly cheeky fashion.

Responding to Toney's tweet Newcastle United fans seemed slightly fearful of the forward who has hit 16 goals in 20 games this season.

"Please go easy on us," one wrote. while another pleaded with Toney to 'go gentle on us.'

Newcastle face Brentford at The Community Stadium on Tuesday with a 5.30 pm kick-off and a place in the semi-final up for grabs.
