Newcastle fans get FA Cup hint as Arsenal chiefs reveal what was said in Premier League meeting

Newcastle United and their Premier League rivals held a video conference with Premier League officials on Friday with suggestions to end the season now rejected by clubs.

Instead, top-flight bosses emerged to signal their intention to complete the season in both the Premier League and the FA Cup.

Scrapping the FA Cup to reduce fixture congestion does not appear to be on the cards.

A Premier League statement yesterday explained that games would not be restarting in May as previously hoped and that football bosses had to wait for the green light from the government before resuming action again.

Arsenal have since emerged as the first club to speak publicly about the meeting and a statement read: "We are in full support of the objective for all remaining domestic league and cup matches from the 2019/20 season to be played, in order to maintain the integrity of each competition.

"We also fully agree with the principle that any return to action will only be with the full backing of Government and when medical guidance allows.

"The restart date is under constant review as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic develops and we continue to work together with all stakeholders through this very challenging time."

Arsenal were due to face a trip to Sheffield United in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with Newcastle set to face Man City.
