Newcastle fans fear Eddie Howe's side need a 'miracle' after heavy Man City defeat

The heavy home defeat to Manchester City has led to many Newcastle United fans fearing relegation is seemingly inevitable.

Eddie Howe's side suffered their second 4-0 loss in eight days, with the reigning Premier League champions comfortably dominating the televised contest on Sunday afternoon.

The Magpies were behind after just five minutes when a mix-up between Ciaran Clark and Martin Dubravka gifted Ruben Dias a goal.

Joao Cancelo doubled this advantage before the break with a fine long-range effort, while strikes from Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling meant the scoreline reflected the superiority of Pep Guardiola's side.

Howe would have been frustrated to see another controversial VAR call goes against his side with Martin Atkinson deciding against awarding a penalty when Ederson collided with Ryan Fraser.

However, it was another disappointing result which means Newcastle remain three points' adrift of safety with Manchester United up next.

While some Magpies fans were quick to stress it was an almost expected defeat, there were many who fear the gulf in class and the familiar defensive mistakes is evidence of a relegation campaign in the making.

This is how Newcastle United fans reacted to the heavy defeat to City.
