Newcastle fans deliver clear relegation verdict on Eddie Howe

Newcastle United fans are confident new head coach Eddie Howe can guide the Magpies to Premier League survival this season.

The Magpies have made an abysmal start to the campaign, and are still searching for their first victory this term.

United sit level on points with bottom club Norwich City, and are currently five points adrift of safety.

Howe himself has stressed the scale of the challenge the club faces in his first St James' Park press conference.

However, United fans are seemingly convinced the former Bournemouth boss will lead the team to a sixth straight top-flight season.

Almost 13,000 Toon supporters took part in our Howe survey, and the vast majority have predicted a lower mid-table finish this term.

When asked where Newcastle will finish the season under the new head coach, nearly 11,000 of responses (86%) voted for 11th-16th position.

Just nine percent of supporters believe the Magpies will suffer relegation, despite the draw at Brighton confirming the club's worst ever start to a season.

United are already 10 points off a top-half spot, but that has not stopped four percent of fans backing Howe to secure top-ten finish.

Howe's reign at St James' Park begins with the visit of Brentford on Saturday.
