Newcastle fans all say the same thing with Axel Tuanzebe set to join Aston Villa

Newcastle United fans are unsurprised by the news Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe looks set to join Aston Villa on loan.

Steve Bruce was keen to be reunited with the 23-year-old, but the Magpies are understood to have been put off by the £5m fee quoted to interested clubs.

Multiple sources report that Tuanzebe is set to sign a contract extension at Old Trafford before linking up with Villa for the season.

It will come as another setback for the Magpies, with Newcastle the only Premier League club yet to make a senior signing this summer.

Bruce has repeatedly stressed United are operating on a limited budget this window, but has refused to give up on the prospect of luring Joe Willock back for a second spell on Tyneside.

The head coach has been keen on strengthening the heart of his defence for some time, and the expected agreement between Villa and Manchester United will once again leave Bruce assessing his defensive options.

The Magpies had previously been considered in 'pole position' to secure Tuanzebe's signature, but the social media reaction to the latest reports shows fans are not surprised to have missed out on another target.

Here's how Newcastle supporters reacted to the latest transfer development:

'Fed up'

Phil Jones 'guarantee'

'Suit up'

'Can't compete'

'It's fine'

'No one is surprised'
