Newcastle fans all say the same thing as pressure mounts on Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Newcastle United fans have ironically championed Steve Bruce as the ideal replacement for under-fire Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Red Devils were subjected to a five-goal thrashing by rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Goals from Naby Keita, Diogo Jota and a hat-trick from Mo Salah sealed a result which Solskjaer described as his 'darkest day' in football.

The former striker has vowed not to quit despite increasing pressure following a poor start to the season.

Manchester United currently sit eight points adrift of the summit with fixtures against Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea to come.

The humiliating defeat to Liverpool has unsurprisingly made Solskjaer the bookmakers' favourite to become the next Premier League manager to leave their post.

If the club's hierarchy decide to make a change, Newcastle fans have called for Bruce to be given a shot at Old Trafford.

The 60-year-old left the Magpies last week by 'mutual consent', and has admitted it could be his last job in football following a turbulent two-year stint.

Bruce's record on Tyneside was regularly defended by pundits, despite a lengthy spell of poor results and performances towards the end of his tenure.

Newcastle's criticism of the former head coach was criticised in some quarters, with several commentators indicating did not deserve the scale of opposition he faced.

It is these views which has led Magpies supporters to put Bruce forward as the ideal replacement for Solskjaer, even starting the '#BruceIn' trend on social media.

Here is how Newcastle fans reacted to the Liverpool defeat which heaped the pressure on the Red Devils boss:

'Bring him home'

'Honestly the best manager in history'

'Let the bidding war begin'

'Modern manager'

'Number one fan'

'Only one man who can put this mess right'

'Steady the ship'

'Sort a defence out'
