Newcastle fan in Amanda Staveley song tribute as toe curling Barry Manilow ballad pays tribute to controversial takeover

A Newcastle United fan has paid tribute to Amanda Staveley with a toe-curling song following the takeover of the club by a Saudi Arabian group.

The English Premier League originally blocked a deal citing concerns over control and the breaching of broadcasting regulations in the kingdom.

Last week however that decision was reversed, with Mike Ashley selling the club after 14 years at the helm.

The business tycoon, a former investor in Rangers, was not a popular figure on Tyneside and his departure was greeted with wild celebration despite concerns over the new owners and their record on human rights.

And it seems one Newcastle fan just can't contain himself as he penned a cringemaking song in honour of Staveley, who helped facilitate the transaction.

Set to the tune of 'Mandy' by Barry Manilow and entitled 'Amanda', of course, the song pays tribute to the likes of Alan Shearer and Paul Gascoigne.

The most fulsome praise though is for the titular Staveley, who is said praised for the fact "you came and you saved us from Ashley" and "saved the Toon Army".

The song by The Geordie Singer quickly went viral on Twitter, with comments not entirely positive.
