Newcastle fan group gets nine-page response from Premier League over takeover

Newcastle United's takeover battle remains ongoing after the Premier League responded to a fan group's legal challenge with a nine-page dossier.

The group believe that the top-flight breached competition law and deployed a legal team to confront the Premier League for answers.

And today they got a response, the Newcastle Consortium Supporters posted an update on Twitter today reading: "We’ve received the EPL’s “substantive” nine-page response.

"It's now with our competition team led by Robert O’Donoghue, QC.

"We’ll announce our next move in our determination to progress this matter.

"Stand together as fans for answers! UNITED we remain!"

Earlier, one of the fans involved, Keith Patterson, had said: "We believe they breached competition law and we wouldn't be here if we didn't think there was a very strong case.

"This takeover was potentially transformative for Newcastle United and the area itself.

"Like the rest of the fans we want transparency around it, but also to fight for what we believe is right here."

After today's correspondence the fight looks set to go on.
