Newcastle fan gets Sports Direct tattoo on bum after supporters hold him to drunken promise to mark takeover

A dedicated Newcastle fan has a lasting reminder of the club's historic takeover after getting a Sports Direct tattoo on his backside.

Mikey Green was enjoying a few drinks with a fellow Toon supporter in February last year when the topic of the club's takeover bid came up.

The 30-year-old said he made a 'drunken' promise to get the logo of former owner Mike Ashley's clothing chain on his bottom if the takeover ever went ahead.

The Magpies fan even went as far as posting about his pledge in a Newcastle United supporters' Facebook page and thought no more of it - until he was tagged in a post earlier this month asking when he was getting the tattoo now that the deal had been done.

"I was having a drink with my mate who is a Newcastle fan as he was sceptical about the takeover and I said that if it happens, I will get Sports Direct tattoo on my backside," Mikey said.

"He was like, ''OK, I'll hold you to that.'

"I got even more drunk and I broadcasted it to a Newcastle United supporters page on Facebook.

"I completely forgot about it, but then last week somebody from the page shared the post again and said they wondered if it had happened."

Mikey said that after making the bet, he 'couldn't back down' so he went to The Voodoo Lounge Tattoo Studio in Carlisle to get it done after the takeover finally went through on October 7.

Mikey had a permanent blue-and-red reminder of the momentous occasion in the club's history just 25 minutes later.

He posted the cheeky snap of the tattoo on social media for fans to see along with the light-hearted comment: 'Forgive the curvy derriere.'

"The tattoo artist thought it was such a good idea and [he was impressed] that I agreed to do it as a lot of people would have chickened out," Mikey said.

It wasn't long before he was met with a raft of praise from NUFC fans online, with many even pledging to donate to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and the Newcastle food bank in a show of support for his efforts.

He said: "People were saying it was all talk so I thought, 'I have to get it done now.'"

"A lot of people have said fair play for doing it and when I first posted it, a few fans messaged and said, 'What charity is it for?'

"It wasn't a charity thing, but if people want to donate to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation or the Newcastle food bank then that's up to them.

"A few people have posted saying they have donated to charity for it so that's an added bonus."

Luckily, Mikey's friends and family have also seen the funny side.

"Friends and family have been quite supportive. They have found it quite funny," he said.

"I have had a lot of positive feedback from it and a lot of positive reaction."

Mikey, who is from Scotland, has been a Newcastle fan since the age of four and regularly travels down to see his side play at home.

When the news of the takeover was announced, he jumped in the car with pals to celebrate with the fans outside St James' Park.

"Me and a few friends actually drove down on the day of the takeover to celebrate outside the stadium," he said.

"As soon as the takeover got announced, I got a message off my mate saying, 'Right, we're driving down. Are you coming?' and I was like, 'Yeah, go for it.'

"We were there for two or three hours. It was a good laugh."
