Newcastle Falcons fans back in the stands as spectators return to watch live sport

Newcastle Falcons fans are back in the stands as Covid restrictions continue to ease.

Supporters were at Kingston Park for the rescheduled match against Northampton Saints on Monday evening.

The match is one of the first rugby games to welcome the return of fans in England.

From Monday, fans are allowed to return to the stadium to watch live sports events as part of the Government's third stage of the lockdown roadmap.

Previously games were staged behind closed doors with fans not allowed to attend.

The match is being used as a test event following approval from the local Safety Advisory Group.

The stadium allowed up to 1,750 fans through the turnstiles for the match.

Newcastle Falcons confirmed only the North, South and West stands would be open, with tickets available via a ballot.
