Newcastle face anxious wait after being rocked by Callum Wilson injury blow

Newcastle United have been rocked by an injury to Callum Wilson.

The Magpies' top scorer's afternoon was ended prematurely with just 35 minutes on the clock and less than half a game after talisman Allan Saint-Maximin was named from the start of a game for the first time since November.

United had already bee dealt the blow of Javier Manquillo being hooked in an injury plagued first half after the right-back went off after 24 minutes.

But Wilson - who was also injured in the reverse fixture against Southampton - hobbled off with a muscle injury after stretching for the ball.

The physio's instant verdict was for Wilson to be subbed as he signalled to the bench for a replacement.

Wilson was out for three weeks back in November after picking up a hamstring injury against the Saints.

He is currently United's top scorer with 10 goals for the campaign so far.
