Newcastle evening headlines with Joe Willock transfer latest amid Freddie Woodman swap talk

Freddie Woodman could be used as a potential makeweight as Newcastle United look to secure a permanent deal for Joe Willock.

Elsewhere, former Magpies midfielder Lee Clark has surprisingly resigned following just three months with Al-Merrikh.

Here are your Newcastle United headlines for June 20:

Willock latest

Newcastle United could throw goalkeeper Freddie Woodman into a possible swap deal plus cash package to secure the services of Joe Willock.

Chronicle Live understands that Arsenal are looking to add an English goalie to their home grown quota and will use the funds from Willock to bolster their own transfer kitty.

The Gunners are trying to sign Brighton & Hove Albion duo Ben White and Tariq Lamptey with the fees potentially adding up to £100million.

Steve Bruce has made it clear to the powers that be he is desperate to bring Willock to Tyneside next season but an asking price is yet to be agreed for the England Under-21 international

Woodman is currently valued at around £10million and would lighten the financial burden for Newcastle.

The young stopper has been on Arsenal's radar for a couple of years and his future at United is far from certain with Karl Darlow and Martin Dubravka the two senior goalkeepers battling for the gloves and third-choice keeper Mark Gillespie also on board.

Clark resigns

Former Newcastle United midfielder Lee Clark has left his role as manager of Sudanese outfit Al-Merrikh.

Clark's appointment with the Sudanese title challengers raised eyebrows back in March but his North East African adventure has come to an end after three months.

The 48-year-old guided Al-Merrikh to four wins, two draws and two losses in his eight matches in charge leaving his side in second place in the Sudanese Premier League, two points adrift of league leaders Al-Hilal with a game in hand.

However, Clark handed in his resignation over the weekend and that has been accepted by the Red Devils' board.

Harley's departure

Newcastle United have started their search for a new head of sports science following Jamie Harley's departure last month.

Harley publicly confirmed his exit ahead of the Magpies' final game of the season at Fulham on May 23.

ChronicleLive understands that Harley has left on good terms and has nothing but positive things to say about those he worked with during his 11 seasons at St James' Park.

Indeed, in his farewell message on Twitter, Harley confirmed he had sampled 'experiences he will never forget' before confirming it was 'time for a new challenge'.

Paul Catterson, the club's doctor, hailed Harley as a 'fantastic person and colleague' while Newcastle United's Foundation said the #BeAGameChanger ambassador's 'dedication' had 'made a world of difference to those in need'.
