Newcastle evening headlines as the government is pressed for takeover answers

The government have been pressed for answers on the Newcastle United takeover and where it stands on the fight for transparency when it comes to the club's arbitration against the Premier League.

The legal proceedings are due to get underway later this month but the call from the club, supporters and local MPs to make the arbitration public have so far not prompted the top flight to agree.

Newcastle Central MP Chi Onwurah has submitted three written questions to the secretary of state for the DCMS over the Saudi-led attempted takeover.

It's the latest attempt for clarity on the deal, which has now gone on for more than 18 months.

Freddie Woodman's future

The future of Freddie Woodman is one dilemma Steve Bruce is going to have to face regardless of the Newcastle United takeover.

The young keeper has enjoyed a run of first-team football over the last two seasons and has made it clear he's got the taste for it.

Leeds United are the latest club to be linked to Woodman after Kiko Casilla returned to Spain.

Swansea and Arsenal have also been credited with an interest.

Jamal Lewis' development

There was plenty of excitement last summer when Newcastle signed Jamal Lewis but he was rarely afforded game time toward the end of last season after a difficult start to life on Tyneside.

Bruce those remains confident that the former Norwich man can make it.

"He is a wonderful athlete, the kid," Bruce told NUFC TV.

"It was a big learning curve for him last year and he is only a young boy."

Graeme Jones to be allowed a break

After being part of England's first-team coaching roster, Graeme Jones will get a few weeks off to recuperate before returning to the Newcastle fold.

The Magpies are currently at a training base in York as their pre-season plans get under-way but Steve Bruce has said Jones won't immediately meet up with them
