Newcastle, Dublin deaths: Post-mortems on bodies of three McGinley children completed as gardai await toxicology results

Post-mortem examinations on the bodies of the three children found dead in a house on Friday have been completed.

Gardai said the interim results of the post-mortems on Conor, Darragh, Carla McGinley will not be published "for operational reasons" and they are waiting on further toxicology results.

Conor, nine, Darragh, seven and Carla, three, were discovered at a house at Parsons Court in Newcastle village, Co Dublin on Friday evening, January 24.

Gardai, who previously said the deaths were not believed to be of natural causes, are expected to launch a triple murder investigation within days.

But they said in an update this afternoon that no arrests have been made and that they "continue to investigate all the circumstances of these unexplained deaths".

The house is still sealed off and the Garda Technical Bureau is continuing an examination today.

A woman in her 40s, believed to be the mother of the young children, was found on Friday night in a "disorientated" state nearby and was taken to Tallaght University Hospital, where she continues to receive medical treatment today.

A Garda spokesperson added: "An Garda Siochana is making no further comment at this time."

Gardai are also working with the South Dublin Children and Young People's Service Committee (CYPSC) to provide counselling and family support services to local children and families over the next few months following the tragedy.

Gardai believe the children were living with their mother at the property in the quiet cul de sac at the time of the incident.

A note reading “Don’t go upstairs... call 999” was reportedly found on a window sill at the house.

A special Mass was held yesterday morning at St Finian’s Church, where parish priest Fr Kevin Doherty said the community’s hearts were broken.

The children's devastated father Andrew McGinley also yesterday released a picture of himself with his children through the gardai.
