Newcastle dealt transfer blow in pursuit of Marcelo Brozovic as Inter Milan decision made

Newcastle's pursuit of Marcelo Brozovic has taken a blow with the Croatian midfielder set to turn down a '£100,000-per week' contract offer from the Magpies to stay at Inter Milan.

The Magpies have been repeatedly linked with a move for the 29-year-old midfielder since their Saudi-led takeover, whose contract is set to expire this summer.

Manchester United and Chelsea have also been tracking the midfielder who looked set to leave the San Siro earlier this year.

However, Journalist

claims the Croatian will turn down a move to St. James' Park, despite being offered huge wages by the Magpies.

Schira claims Brozovic will pen a new deal to extend his stay in Milan until 2025 and will earn around £424k a year less than what Newcastle were offering.

He also claims the Magpies were set to offer the midfielder an £850k bonus, which he's set to snub.

According to The Sun, Inter Milan boss Giuseppe Marotta is happy to continue working with their out-of-contract players until they can reach an agreement. He said: "We are very happy that we can continue with those who want to stay at Inter.

"We can't write millions of dollars in contracts, but if they want to stay I think we can go ahead and come to an agreement.

"I'm proud that Inter have a lot to give to the players and I'm not sure if that is the case anywhere else."
