Newcastle dance DJ Patrick Topping announced for Virgin Money Unity Arena

Award-winning dance DJ star Patrick Topping is the latest act announced for the new Virgin Money Unity Arena at Newcastle Racecourse.

The local house and techno favourite, known for his dynamic DJ sets, will be performing an outdoor show on the Gosforth Park stage on August 21, with tickets on sale this Wednesday.

Topping, who owns record label and events company Trick, has a huge fanbase thanks to his residency at Jamie Jones’ Paradise parties at Ibiza’s DC-10 club; 50-release back-catalogue of dance-floor records on labels and the likes of remixes for Calvin Harris and Booka Shade.

In trademark style, he said of the new date: "Socially-distanced rave in Newcastle, let wu gan!"

He told fans: "So buzzing to finally do a show back home again and this one is gunna be so special, as it’s the first of its kind - an outdoor festival stage set up for 2,000 people but you all get your own private platform, so five of you can have your own platform party"

Armed with career-defining productions in the form of the Beatport chart-topping Be Sharp Say Nowt; Green Velvet collaboration Voicemail; 2014’s Ibiza track of the season Forget and the epic Turbo Time, Topping has played festivals including Coachella, Awakenings, Ultra, and Tomorrowland.

He's also completed several tours of Australia, Europe, South America, Asia and South Africa.

Patrick has performances confirmed for the year ahead including Movement Detroit, Kappa FuturFestival and for the first time is hosting his own stage at a festival, at London’s Lovebox.

Festival organisers Steve Davis said: “Patrick continues to take contemporary dance to a new level and we're absolutely thrilled to welcome him to Virgin Money Unity Arena.

"We're committed to variety where possible, so we hope lovers of dance and techno will be pleased with this news!”

He added: "Not only is the North East flying the flag for showing the world how to put on large-scale music events in the wake of Covid-19, we also continue to produce global acts, and not many come as big in the dance world as Patrick Topping."

Tickets to see Patrick Topping at Virgin Money Unity Arena in Newcastle go on sale on Wednesday, August 5 at 10am, costing £22.50 plus booking fee. See here.
