Newcastle commercial law firm Sintons marks 125th anniversary

One of the region’s best known law firms have celebrated its 125th anniversary.

Sintons, which is based on Barrack Road in Newcastle, can trace its roots back to the formation of Sutton Cheshire & Thompson in February 1896, which merged with John H. Sinton & Co in 1971 to become Sinton & Co, and later Sintons.

The firm’s expansion has seen it move offices several times, moving from Portland Terrace in Jesmond to Osborne Terrace before relocating in 2004 to The Cube, opposite St James’ Park in Newcastle.

Over the years Sintons has become a leading North East law firm, with a client base extending across the whole UK. The firm added a consulting office in York two years ago, to help it meet demand for work in Yorkshire.

As it marked its 125th year, managing partner Christopher Welch said Sintons remained confident in its future, and was backing its continued development and growth with investment in its IT infrastructure, digital offering and people.

Mr Welch said: “We are very proud of the reputation we have built over the past 125 years, which has seen us become known on a national scale as a law firm of the highest capability which is absolutely dedicated to its clients.

“We have never been afraid to be leaders and to take bold decisions, which have frequently put us at the very forefront of the legal sector.

“We were, for example, building our online presence and digital business development platforms way ahead of our competitors and long before it was something that was embraced widely within the legal sector.

“Going forward, we are in a strong position, having built on the heritage and legacy of Sintons over the past 125 years to create a law firm with a national reach, regarded in the highest terms for the quality of both our legal and personal client service.

“This is a very significant milestone for us as a business, and while we reach it during some of the most challenging economic conditions in the country’s history, we remain confident in the future of Sintons.”
