Anyone used to carrying out a spring clean of their wardrobe to make way for a fresh look is instead being encouraged to swap - rather than buy - outfits.
As part of a 'reduce; re-use and recycle' initiative, a Clothes Swap Newcastle event is taking place on February 9 which promises a perfect opportunity to get rid of cast-offs and exchange them for something else that catches their eye.
And it also means that those bored with their old style have a a chance to try out a new one without any of the usual extra expense.
The Clothes Swap will take place at Summerhill Bowling Club - described as a "hidden gem" in Newcastle's Summerhill Square - and on its Facebook page it told those interested in attending:"bring as little or as much as you can carry in exchange for as little or as much as you need".
It added: "Everyone will give and get exactly what they came for. The beauty of a swap shop is you can let go of the old and welcome something new."
Besides being an outlet for replacing clothes, the event - hosted by the Summerhill Trust and community action organisation ReRoot - relies on donations to help pay for the cost of the room. In a further green initiative, any money remaining will go towards planting some trees, while excess clothes will be donated to charities.
The Facebook post said: "Let's make Newcastle's Fashion Circular!" and it added: "Together as a community let's see how abundant we all are and how good it feels to reduce our shopping, reuse our clothes and recycle."
