Newcastle 'close' to confirming two contract extensions with Andy Carroll and Javier Manquillo keen to stay

Newcastle United are close to confirming deals for Andy Carroll and Javier Manquillo - according to Steve Bruce.

However. the head coach says that talks with Matty Longstaff are ongoing with Bruce eager to offer him a long-term contract.

With Serie A side Udinese waiting in the wings to offer Longstaff a five-year deal, both the club and the midfielder have been handed an extra month to mull things over after the 20-year-old penned a short-term extension.

Talk of a one-year extension has never been a starter with Longstaff hoping to get a clear career path to regular fist team football in order to enhance his chances of adding to his England Under-20 cap.

For now Bruce says that an announcement for Carroll and Manquillo could emerge soon,

Bruce, speaking to the media via a Zoom conference, said: "We have talked about longer with the three of them, Javier Manquillo, Andy Carroll and Matty Longstaff.

"The talks are ongoing and I believe it is positive as far as Andy is concerned as with Manquillo.

"I think it is important that those players understand that

"We hope that the one that is sorted is the young one, Matty.

"He's the one we can't seem to get over the line.

"The others are close and let's hope we can announce something in the next couple of weeks."
