Newcastle boss Steve Bruce would be 'over the moon' with potential signing of Jeff Hendrick

Steve Bruce would be "over the moon" if Newcastle United managed to sign former Burnley midfielder Jeff Hendrick this summer.

That's the view of former Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton, who believes the Republic of Ireland international would fit in well with the Magpies.

United have been offered the chance to sign the 28-year-old who left Turf Moor this summer after four years with the Clarets.

The Irish midfielder was a target of AC Milan earlier this year, and is also understood to be on the radar of Aston Villa.

A recent report indicated the Magpies were winning the race for Hendrick's signature, and Hutton believes the "top-quality player" would fit in well at St James' Park.

Hutton told Football Insider: “I think he’d (Bruce) be over the moon with that, I think he’s been a top-quality player – it was touted that AC Milan were interested.

“I think he’s been a great player for Burnley, he would definitely fit into the way Steve Bruce likes to play and I think Steve Bruce has got an eye for a player – he can see how he’s going to fit in.

“He would definitely fit the bill at Newcastle and the way they’re heading at the moment.”
