Newcastle boss Steve Bruce says Magpies their own worst enemy and confirms two new injuries

Steve Bruce says that Newcastle United only have themselves to blame for stumbling to a fortunate draw in the FA Cup at Rochdale.

The Magpies took the lead in the first half through Miguel Almiron but failed to build on it and veteran Aaron Wilbraham took full advantage.

United now face a replay in 10 days time on Tyneside.

Bruce said: “We should have been out of sight and therein lies our big problem - we don’t score often enough.

“If you don’t take your chances this type of thing can happen in the cup.

“Rochdale made a cup tie of it. The loss of Almiron and Muto took the edge off us and all of a sudden we weren’t a threat any more.

“In the first half I was delighted with them. We should have been out of sight, in my opinion. We didn’t take enough chances and we have to improve in that area.

“We’re still in the hat and in the draw. It’s the FA Cup. We’ll take it seriously like I said from day one.”

To compound Newcastle’s woe, the Magpies lost both Yoshinori Muto and Miguel Almiron to go with nine other senior injuries.

Bruce said: “Muto has a hip injury, Almiron has a groin problem. We’ll not know the severity until tomorrow.”
