Newcastle boss Steve Bruce hopes to spoil Cristiano Ronaldo's Manchester United 'carnival'

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has warned that his side will be looking to spoil Manchester United's "carnival" when Cristiano Ronaldo makes his second debut.

United will give Ronaldo his first minutes of his second spell on Saturday - from the off or off the bench - when Newcastle visit Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

It is poised to be a special occasion at Old Trafford with the contest dubbed as Ronaldo's homecoming and tickets having been snapped up in their thousands to see one of the club's greatest players of all time make his return.

However, Bruce, who played for United between 1987 and 1996, is looking to disrupt the five-time Ballon d'Or winner's special day.

"He is the best player in the world, arguably," Bruce said during his pre-match press conference "It is quite an incredible story of him going back and I am sure they could have sold out Old Trafford ten times over if they wished.

"It has been quite remarkable. It is our job to go there and make sure we make it as difficult as possible for them.

"He is incredible for his age and we saw that in the international [vs Republic of Ireland] last week. He has been a quality, quality player and you can't hit any higher than where he has been. He has been totally unbelievable.

"But we have got to try and stop him tomorrow.

"He has been quite a remarkable player with how he has looked after himself, the goals he has scored at every club he has played for has been quite remarkable, which quite rightly, in my opinion, makes him to be the best player in the world. It is a terrific signing by Man United.

"I am not chained with fear. This is something we're all in it for; these are the big stages, the big atmosphere and the big carnival that it will be tomorrow.

"We are in it to take on the biggest and the best and that is what we're up against this weekend."
