Newcastle boss Steve Bruce answers questions on his contract as new information on future emerges

Steve Bruce has revealed he has held no fresh contract talks with the Newcastle United hierarchy - but says that his current deal does NOT expire at the end of this season.

Bruce signed a deal in 2019 but back then his contract stipulated it was an "initial three years".

Reports linking Bruce with a three-year contract offer emerged before the game.

Speaking after the 2-0 win over Burton last night, Bruce said: "I honestly do not know where it came from.

"That was news to me."

And when asked if he'd held any talks, Bruce insisted: "No".

More interestingly when asked if he was at the end of his contract in May, he replied: "No."

That suggested Bruce may have an option at the end of his current Newcastle deal to extend.

However, the situation is all up in the air in some ways as much depends on the club's takeover status.

Meanwhile, Bruce also stated after the game that Callum Wilson's absence was not serious.

Wilson was left out with a "slight knock" as a precaution.
