Rafa Benitez has wished Iker Casillas a 'quick and full recovery' after the Porto goalkeeper suffered a heart attack at the club's training ground on Wednesday.
The Portuguese giants have confirmed that the 37-year-old is in a stable condition at the the Hospital CUF Porto after suffering an an acute myocardial infarction during training.
The football world has rallied around the Spain legend, who has won 25 trophies in a glittering career spanning two decades, and Benitez has been quick to send his best wishes on social media.
'Much encouragement, Iker. We wish you a quick and full recovery. A hug,' he wrote on Twitter.
Benitez briefly worked with Casillas at Real Madrid in 2015 and the goalkeeper has always spoken highly of his former manager for being 'worried about me' before he left for Porto.
"Iker is a living legend at Real Madrid and the best goalkeeper in the club's history," Benitez said after Casillas' departure.
"He has decided to be on his way and go to another team. As a coach I have to respect that decision and wish him all the luck in the world. He will remain in the hearts of the Real fans and from here on I wish him success and that he enjoys being at a great club".
Casillas, who was previously linked with a move to St James' Park, played against Newcastle in a pre-season friendly last summer.
