BEACHWATCH
Cleaner waves for the morning surf before sea breeze begins to kick in. Swell is slowly dropping and has straightened up causing some close outs and backwash on the lower tides.
Swell from the south-east to south at 1.5 decreasing to 1m. Wind light and variable early tending north to north-east.
Banks are better as the tide runs in with shorebreaks at Merewether, Pogos and Dixon. Newcastle Beach and South Bar mid-morning. Redhead, Frenchmans and Birdie to the south. Birubi up at Port Stephens.
Shallow banks on low with slight sweeps. Patrolled beaches all have red and yellow flags up.
