Newcastle bar offers free beer and you'll have to sharp-eyed not to miss it

A popular city centre bar is offering a free pint to those who spot its posters of a bear mascot which will be popping up around Newcastle.

The Botanist has teamed up with independent Welsh microbrewery Tiny Rebel to launch a Bear Hunt to promote the beer and people need to keep a lookout for the posters showing its bear mascot. When they spot one, they can then scan the QR code displayed on the poster to claim their complimentary pint.

Newcastle is one of several cities across the country taking part in The Botanist's Bear Hunt and the chain says 21 posters will be positioned around not-so-hidden areas, including local landmarks, so beer fans should not have too much trouble finding one. As an added treat there is also a nationwide race on to win a year's supply of beer - but that could involve quite some travelling.

This prize will be awarded to the person who finds the most Botanist Bears in the most cities. There also will be brewery tours on offer in the prize draw.

Alex Hardcastle, activations and partnerships manager at The Botanist, said the company came up with the idea of the freebie to brighten up the month which marks the end of summer and the start of nights cutting in. “September is generally a bit of a damp month for everyone," he said, adding: "Our sites have never been more ready to give away free beer."

Posters across the country will feature the bear mascot with 'location-specific' looks to add to their appeal. Those who spot a poster can scan the QR code on it with their mobile phone. Then by completing the survey they find, they will automatically receive a free voucher for a pint of Tiny Rebel Clwb Tropica draught beer at The Botanist in the area.

The deal is one free pint per person per city and the free drink can be redeemed up to September 30. The person who finds the most bears in Botanist locations will receive an initial 12 cases of Tiny Rebel beer, plus merchandise, followed by another case every month for the following 11 months.

Besides Newcastle, the bear posters will be in Alderley Edge, Bath, Birmingham, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Chester, Didsbury, Exeter, Farnham, Ipswich, Knutsford, Lincoln, Media City, Reading, Sheffield, Leeds, Warrington, West Bridgford, Worcester and York.
