Newcastle bar launches bid to find man turned away for wearing tracksuit bottoms

A Newcastle bar is looking to reimburse a Black Eye Friday reveller who resorted to buying a pair of jeans after being rejected for wearing 'trackies'.

Robert Robson was refused entry into Mayfair on Friday night by bouncers due to his 'questionable' choice of trousers.

But he was not going to let that stop him from getting a drink, and he headed straight for Debenhams.

He told ChronicleLive: "I had a pair of trackie bottoms on and they wouldn't let me in so the only option I had was to go find a shop just to buy a pair of jeans.

"I got a proper knock back from them and it has cost me £20, which I'm gutted about.

"But at least I got in."

Security staff at the recently opened city centre bar - on the former site of Sam Jacks - were in hysterics when they realised how far Robert was willing to go to get a drink.

"I told him he couldn't get in with what he had on, but he came back just ten minutes later with the jeans on - I just said 'What can I say to that," said one bouncer.

Bosses at Mayfair were so impressed with Robert's determination that they now want help finding him so they can reimburse him for his quick-thinking purchase.

A post on the bar's Facebook page reads: "We need a little help this Xmas. You may or may not have seen a news article from last night highlighting the mad Friday plight of a reveller in town.

"He visited our venue only to be refused entry because of his questionable trousers.

"However, with his don't give up attitude the man in question went and sourced some alternative and more fitting jeans.

"In the true spirit of Xmas we would like to try and find this man to reimburse him for his purchase.

"Please share this story with hashtag  #findjeansguy  and we can hopefully find him."
