Newcastle bar hosts Valentine's Day dance for some old-style romancing

Those looking for something a little to different to do this Valentine's Day can whirl back in time with the invitation to a romantic dance.

Billy Bootleggers in Newcastle is hosting a 'lovely Valentine's dance' on February 14, which it promises is going to be 'proper romantic'.

And, on top of a live band playing on the night at 9pm - followed by a resident DJ, there will be moonshine which no doubt will add an extra glow to the dancers' faces.

However, this will be the boozy version featuring the bar's home-brewed take on the American spirit.

A spokesman for the cosy basement bar in Nelson Street, under the Grainger Market, said that Friday's event, called The Enchantment under the Sea Dance, will be "taking you back to a simpler time when all that mattered was music, dancing and Billy's Apple Pie Moonshine".

The moonshine is the bar's signature drink and it's made to a secret recipe which includes cider with apple and cinnamon flavours. Among the other boozy options are cocktails and the likes of whisky with a pickle juice chaser or shot of tequila.

The dance night - an addition to the bar's popular events schedule which includes film screenings and disco brunches - will get under way on Friday at 8pm and the bar will remain open until 2am.

Entry will be free and the night is open to all, not just loved-up couples.

Singles and groups of friends are also welcome.

To ensure that it covers all the bases, the bar is also hosting An Anti-Valentine's Day Quiz on Thursday evening.
