Newcastle backed to make shock Danny Rose signing that fans would 'love'

Newcastle United have been backed to re-sign 'incredible' former England international defender Danny Rose.

Former Scotland, Rangers and Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish has made the bold claim and he feels it would be a signing Magpies fans would 'love'.

Rose, of course, spent the second half of the 2019/20 campaign on loan at Newcastle from Tottenham, making 13 appearances in a solid, if unspectacular, spell at St James' Park.

Newcastle opted not to pursue a permanent deal, though, and signed Norwich City left-back Jamal Lewis instead.

Lewis has struggled to settle in his first season at the club, though, and the Magpies have been linked with a move for free agent Jetro Willems in recent weeks.

Rose, too, is set to be a free agent in the summer after spending the entire 2020/21 campaign training with Tottenham's under-23s.

Nonetheless, McLeish feels it would prove to be a popular move if Bruce takes a gamble and re-signs Rose for United.

“Rose is a great player. In fact, Newcastle fans actually would love Danny Rose to go back," McLeish told Football Insider.

“With Danny, it’s does he love football?

“He spoke about: ‘I’ll just walk away and retire then,’ last year when he was maybe in the huff a wee bit.

“But what a good player Newcastle would get on a free transfer. Incredible.”
