For golf enthusiasts, owning a house that backs onto a golf course would be a dream come true.
But for Clare O'Hara, it wasn't the chance to tee off directly out her back gate that originally drew her to her home on Merewether's Lockyer Street, which she purchased a decade ago after moving from Sydney.
"It's funny because I actually don't play golf, but it is such a peaceful outlook," Ms O'Hara said.
"We were looking in the area and I noticed this property had been on the market but didn't sell, so I actually door knocked and said 'Are you still interested in selling?'
"It was purely because it backed onto the golf course and I loved the outlook.
"I couldn't afford to live right near the beach and I thought this was the next best thing."
Now, the golf course has become part of a regular ritual for the family.
"We have a golf buggy and take it out to have a hit at sunset most nights, so even though I'm not officially a golfer - I'm too impatient to hit 18 holes - it's been an extension of our backyard, which is nice," she said.
The fully renovated house spans two levels, including four bedrooms and three bathrooms.
The property, which has direct access to the seventh tee of Merewether Golf Club, is on the market with an auction guide of $2.2 million with Lyndall Allan of Salt Property.
Outside, the swimming pool area features a colourful, hand-painted kookaburra mural created by O'Hara, a former fashion designer-turned-artist.
"Being an artist, as much as I love white to balance things out, I love colour, so that big blank wall was perfect to attack and paint a mural," she said.
"The inspiration behind it was the kookaburras that land on our back fence every day, so I intuitively painted them knowing that they visit me all the time.
"I painted the mural earlier this year and I remember it was hot, so I was painting, and then I'd get hot and jump in the pool, then do another layer and jump back in the pool.
"It was a nice way to paint."
Ms Allan said the home's greatest appeal is the charm.
"From the moment you walk through the front door, there's an immediate sense of warmth and belonging," Ms Allan said.
"With the owner being artist Clare O'Hara, it feels like stepping into your own private gallery, with beautiful original artworks throughout the home.
"We've even had buyers ask if some of the artworks are available to purchase."
The house features a main bedroom suite with a balcony, a walk-in robe, an ensuite and a sitting room on the top level.
