Newcastle are ready to move in January transfer window if right player is available

Steve Bruce has revealed that Newcastle United are in a position for transfer movement in the January window IF the right players become available.

United have not played down reports linking them with Arsenal’s out-of-favour star Granit Xhaka, with Bruce telling Chronicle Live last week he admired the Switzerland midfielder.

Funds have been put to one side for Bruce and United ahead of the window.

When asked his stance on recruitment in early 2020, Bruce told the Chronicle: “I am very, very calm.

“It is normal, we meet every week, of course.

“But it all gets exaggerated here.

“Like everybody, I’ve said January is a difficult month.

“But if there’s somebody out there that can improve us, and it’s possible then we will try to react to it.“

The newfound threat from corners that gives Newcastle's defenders the cutting edge

Xhaka may become available on loan at Arsenal and the Gunners are set to consider offers from clubs willing to pay his wages.

How much of a portion will be acceptable remains to be seen.

The precarious position of Unai Emery could yet affect the situation.

Indeed, if an incoming manager decides to attempt to reintegrate Xhaka, it would end hopes of his exit.
