Newcastle are in 'good form by anyone's book' but will 'come up short' against Liverpool

Newcastle United are in 'good form in anyone's book' but will still come up short against Liverpool on Saturday.

That is the verdict of former England forward Michael Owen who, of course, played for both clubs during his career.

The Magpies head to Anfield unbeaten in their last three matches and on the back of successive victories over Burnley and West Ham that has lifted them eight points clear of the Premier League's relegation zone.

A win against the reigning Premier League champions on Merseyside would take Steve Bruce's side to 38 points and would almost certainly preserve their top flight status for another season.

But they are taking on a Reds side who are in danger of missing out on next season's Champions League and Jurgen Klopp's side can ill afford any more slip ups if they are to catch the likes of Leicester, Chelsea and West Ham above them.

And despite acknowledging Newcastle's recent upturn in form, Owen feels Liverpool will win to nil when the two sides clash on Saturday afternoon.

"Despite an early exit from the UEFA Champions League, Liverpool have picked up in recent weeks," Owen told Bet Victor.

"They will have been disappointed to have only taken a point against Leeds in their last match, however, overall, the Reds’ performances have been a lot better than they were at the start of the year.

"Newcastle have done well to get themselves in a good position at the bottom end of the table, losing only once in their last seven matches.

"That is good form in anyone’s book although I do feel, at Anfield, the Geordies may come up just short against Liverpool side that are chasing a top four finish."
