Newcastle announce first 'sold out' game this season as free ticket initiative has immediate impact

Newcastle United have announced that there are no tickets available for the Everton match as the Magpies free half season ticket initiative has ushered in their first full house of the season.

The Magpies and the home clash with the Toffees is the first game they’ll be eligible to attend.

Newcastle have left a small number of tickets available to pay on the day and these have all been sold – along with a full away allocation for the post-Christmas clash.

A Tweet posted this afternoon announced: “Tickets for #NUFC’s final home fixture of 2019 against Everton on Saturday, 28th December are now SOLD OUT.

“Tickets remain on sale to members for the visit of Leicester City to St. James’ Park on New Year’s Day.”

If all the ‘new’ season ticket holders turn up, it will be Newcastle’s first full house of the season after previous games saw attendances drop below 43,000 after thousands of fans walked away from the club in protest at Mike Ashley’s continued involvement .

And while some fans on social media criticised the wording of the Tweet given so many fans will not have paid for their ticket, it is a sign that the uptake has been huge and should provide a short-term solution to the problem of embarrassing empty seats.

Nearly 6,000 tickets are unsold for Newcastle’s home game against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
