Newcastle and Everton 'join race' to seal £20m Nottingham Forest transfer in January window

Transfer interest in Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson is said to be mounting ahead of the January window.

Four Premier League clubs are reported to be keen on signing Johnson, with two ready to make their move.

West Ham and Brentford apparently hold an interest in the 20-year-old, but it is Everton and Newcastle who are prepared to strike.

Johnson has played in every Championship game so far this season, with Premier League scouts flocking to watch him in action.

In his last two outings, Johnson has scored twice and assisted another as Cooper's Forest find themselves sitting pretty in seventh place in the Championship table.

Steve Cooper's men are on the cusp of the play-offs and sit nine points off the automatic promotion places.

However, a club would have to meet Forest's £20million valuation if he were to leave in January, according to the Daily Mail.

Newcastle have money after their £305m Saudi-led takeover, while Everton are desperate for reinforcements in attack as they languish at 14th in the Premier League table.

Tottenham also said to be "monitoring" the situation ahead of a potential move for the Wales international.

It goes without saying that losing Johnson in January would be a monumental blow to Forest's promotion hopes, but £20m in the club coffers could also prove huge.
