Newcastle Airport passengers faced check-in delays overnight as 'technical issue' is investigated

An investigation is under way after passengers boarding planes at Newcastle Airport faced check-in delays.

Problems began with the airport's check-in system on Thursday evening and passengers were advised to arrive earlier than usual.

Teams at the airport worked overnight to try to resolve the issue before the morning flights were scheduled to depart.

However, early morning plane passengers were still asked to leave home extra early in case the issue happened again.

The cause of the technical problems is still under investigation on Friday morning.

Richard Knight, chief operating officer at Newcastle International Airport , said:  Last night, we experienced a technical issue which affected our check-in systems.

“The team worked hard overnight so that there was no disruption to the early morning flights, and they pulled together brilliantly with business partners to ensure that operations continued throughout.”

By 8am on Friday the issues on the system were said to be "resolved" and holidaymakers were told they could arrive at the usual time.

Passengers are advised to be at the airport for check-in two hours before their scheduled flight.
