Newcastle make fun of Liverpool after VAR controversy and last-minute equaliser

Newcastle’s Twitter account has aimed a joke at Liverpool after their draw at Anfield.

The Reds had to settle for a point in their 1-1 stalemate in the Premier League, with Mohamed Salah netting the only goal for the home side.

Callum Wilson thought he equalised for Newcastle only for his effort to be disallowed for handball, before Joe Willock struck moments later to see Liverpool drop two precious points.

The draw means Liverpool lie one point outside the top four having played a game more than fourth placed Chelsea.

Much of the build-up to the game was dominated by the proposed plans of a European Super League.

Liverpool initially announced they were to be one of 12 founding members of the competition, before withdrawing less than 48 hours later.

Leeds United aimed a dig at Liverpool’s expense on Twitter after their draw on Monday night, and now Newcastle have done the same.

“A big point against former Super League opposition,” the tweet read.

Liverpool have five league fixtures remaining to try and climb up to the Champions League qualifying spots, with an away trip to arch rivals Manchester United next on the agenda.
