Newcastle 2-2 Man City - Alan Shearer praises trio as Magpies come from behind to claim point

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has heaped praise on the club as Steve Bruce's side came from behind to claim a point against Man City.

Raheem Sterling had put City ahead with 22 minutes on the clock as David Silva danced through the United defence but Jetro Willems equalised just three minutes later.

The Dutch international was played in by Miguel Almiron , and curled one into the far corner with his less-favoured right foot.

United held their own for the rest of the game until Kevin De Bruyne hit a wonder strike from the edge of the box in the 82nd minute - but Bruce's side would not lie down.

Javier Manquillo raced through on goal and was bundled to the floor by Fernandinho on the edge of the box - and with two minutes left of the ninety, Christian Atsu played in Jonjo Shelvey on the edge of the box.

The former Liverpool man hit a first-time effort into the corner, sending the fans wild.

And it was Willems and Shelvey who impressed Shearer - as well as Martin Dubravka who pulled off two world class saves as City pushed for more goals.

That win pushes United up to 12th - and takes United's unbeaten run at St James' Park to six.
