Matty Longstaff enjoyed a dream debut scoring the winning goal as Newcastle beat Manchester United 1-0 at St James' Park to pile more misery on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The 19-year-old, starting in midfield alongside brother Sean, capped an impressive display for the Magpies with a fine effort from 20 yards on 72 minutes.
United struggled to muster a clear-cut chance from open play on another disappointing afternoon as the pressure begins to mount on Solskjaer, whose side stay 12th.
The Norwegian made six changes from the goalless draw with AZ Alkmaar in midweek, with Fred handed a first Premier League start since April.
After a drab opening to the game, Allan Saint-Maximin - a £20m summer signing from Nice - began to show glimpses of his ability, wreaking havoc with his pace and direct running.

It wasn't until the 27th minute before the first real opportunity arrived. Saint-Maximin found Matty Longstaff, the 19-year-old making his debut, and the midfielder's powerful effort bounced off the crossbar.
The hosts were growing in confidence and could have taken the lead when Miguel Almiron sprung the offside trap only to see his effort blocked by Harry Maguire.
Maguire then missed a gilt-edged chance to put United in front somehow heading wide from six yards out from an Andreas Pereira corner.

That proved to be costly when Matty Longstaff was found by Jetro Willems and the young midfielder powered a low effort into the corner past David De Gea.
Solskjaer sent on Mason Greenwood and Tahith Chong in search of an equaliser but it never looked likely as the visitors succumbed to a morale-damaging defeat to extend their winless run on the road to eight games.
