Mystery as newborn baby dies in 'unexplained' incident at home sparking police probe

A newborn baby has died at a residential address, sparking a police probe.

Paramedics arrived at the home in Swindon in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The baby was pronounced dead at the scene, with the ambulance service calling Wiltshire Police to the address.

Officers are treating the death as unexplained, with forensic experts at the scene investigating.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "We were called by the ambulance service to a report of a death of a newborn baby at an address in Grange Park in the early hours of Monday morning (August 1).

"Enquiries are currently ongoing and the death is currently being treated as unexplained."

West Swindon parish councillor Tim Swinyar told WiltshireLive: "It's terrible to hear. My thoughts are with the family. It's really shocking news."

A crime scene has been in place at the address since the early hours of Monday morning and remains in place today.
