Newborn abandoned at Dhone hospital

A couple reportedly abandoned a newborn girl at Dhone Yashoda Hospital and the baby has been handed over to Integrated Child Development Services Kurnool authorities for observation and tracing of the parents.

The ICDS Supervisor at Dhone, Padmavathi, told reporters on Saturday that they had got information about the baby girl being abandoned within 15 minutes of delivery on March 30 but had kept the baby under observation at the same hospital. The baby is now healthy, hence an FIR has been filed with the Dhone police and possession given to ICDS Kurnool for taking care.

While the police will make efforts to trace the parents, who had not left any contact information with the hospital, and if they turn untraceable, the baby would be given for adoption as per rules after producing it in front of the Child Welfare Committee, said Ms. Padmavathi.
